Established in May 2001, the Bankruptcy Law and Restructuring Research Center (the “Center”) of China University of Political Science and Law is the first institution in China specialized in professional researches in bankruptcy law and corporate restructuring. The Center is comprised by a large team of experts who have been engaged in the research and practice of bankruptcy and corporate restructuring for years. 

The Center aims to facilitate the establishment of a comprehensive insolvency system in China and to create a favorable environment for insolvency law practice, and is dedicated to providing professional advice and training for government authorities, companies and the financial sectors. As a major participant, the Center has participated in the legislation procedures of all bankruptcy laws in China, the formulation of judicial interpretations by the Supreme People’s Court and some important judicial policies. The Center has completed quantities of research projects on bankruptcy law sponsored by the National People’s Congress, ministries or committees of the central government, the Supreme People’s Court, local people’s courts and enterprises. The Center has been operating China’s most influential WeChat public account in the field of bankruptcy law, Bankruptcy Law Express, which has published more than 1,500 original articles and has more than 60,000 followers as of November 2023. 

The Center is also dedicated to international professional communication and cooperation where it has represented China as an organizational member of INSOL International since 2005. More than 150 Chinese scholars and lawyers have joined INSOL International through the Center. 

There are two important committees established in the Center, the advisor committee and the expert committee, members of which come from government authorities, academic and professional practice areas. The Center was founded and is headed by Prof. Li Shuguang, a specialist in insolvency and restructuring law in China and one of the first pioneers in China in the field of insolvency and restructuring law.
