Ian Strang Founders Award

Ian Strang Founders Award

Ian Strang was the first President of INSOL International and was instrumental in creating INSOL International, laying the foundations of the association that we have today. To recognise his achievements INSOL International has created an award in memory of Ian. The Ian Strang Founders Award provides an educational opportunity for an academic or practitioner specialising in insolvency law to attend the Annual INSOL International Academic Colloquium.

Winners of this award will be selected from the articles by early career scholars published in the previous year’s International Insolvency Review (IIR) Journal, by a panel from the journals editorial committee.

The best paper in 2024 was titled "The purpose of directors' duties in the insolvency context: A critical assessment based on empirical data from Austria and Netherlands", by Jessie Pool, Leiden University, The Netherlands and Georg Wabl, Binder Grösswang, Austria.

Jessie and Georg are invited to attend the INSOL Academic Colloquium in Barcelona in May 2025.

Runners up to this award are:
Outstanding Paper: "China's crisis management and market exit mechanism for banks—What is the way forward?" by Geleite Xu, University of Derby, UK and Yifeng Shi, Zhejiang University, China
Exceptional Paper: "A principled examination of US bankruptcy law and the accounting for value in conversions between chapters 7 and 13" by Gavin Ritter, Indianapolis University, USA
